If you would
like an introduction into rugby with out the physicality
Oakmeadians also have a lively Touch Rugby section who play
through out the year, and an ever growing Tag section
during the summer, leading to all year round rugby at the
club.
These types of rugby have
several advantages over the traditional game, including the
ease of learning and the ability to play it without fear of
injury. One of the best aspects of the sport of Touch is
its broad appeal. It is played by both sexes, and in age
divisions from primary school children to over-50 masters.
Both Tag and Touch help to develop essential skills and
fitness for use both in the rugby codes and other sports.
Schools have used touch as part of their curriculum to
avoid the inevitable injuries that can stem from the full
contact version. In fact its safe, non-contact nature,
combined with the fun and vibrance of the sport, has meant
that mini tag is now the R.F.U.’s official version of rugby
for under-7s and under-8s.
They both also scores in the lack of required equipment
needed. As kicking is not part of touch, posts are not
required, and the game can be played with minimal
facilities (a ball and a rectangular playing area).
All abilities are welcome to come and join us for some
furious fun with training on the following evenings and
keep an eye out for our up and coming summer
