Oaks vs Wimborne 25/11/07

Wimborne were our visitors this week.

From the kick off the boys chased up the kick and forced Wimborne to knock on; from the ensuing scrum they advanced towards the try line when Wimborne infringed and a penalty was awarded. From this penalty the ball passed to Jack Hart (on the wing) who ran in to score a try in the corner to score the first points within a couple of minutes. Tom Keir missing the conversion.

Wimborne came back at us hard and on numerous occasions had two / three man overlaps on the wing which thankfully their centre kept cutting back in and not passing the ball on. The boys were under siege in the twenty two and although the defensive effort was excellent, the pressure told and Wimborne swung the ball down the line and this time utilising the overlap scored, they also missed the conversion making the score 5 -5. This remained the score until half time.

The second half was a carbon copy of the first apart from us attacking at the end instead of the beginning. Wimborne kept finding overlap on the wings but thankfully bad decision making by their backs let us off the hook. The boys defended stoutly but as in the first half the pressure told and with assistance of a couple of missed tackles they scored a further two tries both converted and the final score was 5 - 19 to Wimborne.

A better performance than a couple of weeks ago and both teams played hard rugby.

The Players of the Match as chosen by Wimborne’s Coaches were Joe Bradford in the backs and AJ Hardwick in the forwards.

The unanimous verdict for Tackle of the Wimborne were our visitors this week.
