Wimborne vs Oaks 11/11/07
12/11/07 22:13
The U15’s travelled to
windy Wimborne. We played the first half against a howling wind and
Wimborne were quick to make the most of it, with good positioning
kicks pushing us back into our 22. The inevitable happened and they
scored in the corner. We responded well but every time we went into
the tackle area they came out with the ball. Our first up tackles
were not good and at half time Wimborne led by 22 – 0. If it was
not for Gavin’s last ditch tackle in the corner it could have been
worse.
As we turned round for the second half the wind died off completely and the boys started to play controlled rugby and we pinned Wimborne in their own half. After some good mauling Serge went over to give us hope, Tommy slotting the conversion over. After this the boys were hungry for the ball and it now became Wimborne who were losing the ball in the tackle area, but although we bombarded their line the defence stood firm. The final score was 22 – 7 to Wimborne.
It was good to see Toby making his from his broken wrist and he soon got stuck in.
Keiron played well at hooker, the forwards out pushed Wimborne in the majority of scrums. The backs were starved of a lot of ball when once again our decision making let us down. As a team we must learn to catch the ball when it is kicked through and not let it bounce which gives the opposition a chance to reclaim the ball.
The Players of the Match as chosen by Wimborne’s coaching staff were Tommy in the backs and Jack in the forwards.
The tackle of the match was Alex “Jim” on Wimborne’s No8.
Boys you have to remember to be switched on from before the kick off and not give the opposition a flying start. A better performance than last week but you need to get back to the level of intensity you were producing at the start of the season.
