Wimborne Festival
A great fast paced match with no handling errors from the mighty acorns, and only one mistake from a start off by Wimborne (which probably cost them the game).
Congratulations to Steve Lawson and his squad for bringing home the silver in the last game of the season.

Regional Trials
Congratulations to Lauren Horsley and Kate Quigley who having been selected for Dorset and Wilts U18 Girls were then selected to attend South West Regional Trials on the 20th January at the Portway Development Centre in Bristol and were both selected for the South West (N) Regional Squad.
Congratultaions also to Hannah Golding and Hannah Vincent who also having been selected for Dorset and Wilts U15 Girls attended Regional trials on the same day and were selected for the U15 South West (N) Regional Squad. A mention also for Natalie Martin who played for County and went for the Regional trials who just missed out on selection this year.
Feeding the players
Please volunteer as the more people who help the less everyone has to do.. At the moment the same people are having to do the kitchen every week. It's mostly the managers who are already doing a great deal of work for their respective age groups. All that is needed is an hour or two, so come into the kitchen and meet lots of other people in the club

Oaks Win at Twickenham

ACORNS UNDER EIGHTS SQUAD BEAT WASPS AND SARACENS
On Saturday 15 September 2007 a little piece of Oakmeadians History was made.
Oakmeadians first match started at around 11 am against
Wasps. The pace was very quick due to a fantastic
playing surface. Oaks were quick off the mark and were
shortly into a 2 nil lead. At the hooter the lead had
stretched to 4 – 1 in our favour.
The second match was played against Saracens with a few
players substituted for a short rest. This match turned
out to be a much harder affair than the previous one.
It was end to end stuff with a try being scored every
minute. At the end of this hard earned battle the score
was 4 – 3 in Oakmeadians favour.
Things were looking up for the ten players . After a
team talk and a few oranges it was time to take on Old
Dunstablians. A win here and we could be in with a
chance to play on the hallowed turf at RFU
headquarters. A hard fought match ensued. A few players
were unfortunately injured and substituted.
Unfortunately the Oaks lost 3 – 1 but all was not lost.
The final match against Beaconsfield was the best I
have ever seen tag played. To hold off a team 5 metres
from your try line for so long was tremendous. Each
pass was made with perfect accuracy and the pace of the
ball carriers was like lightening. The way the team
acted throughout the tournament was professional and a
credit to themselves and their coaching staff. The
Oakmeadians beat Beaconsfield 4 – 1 and were now in a
promising position for the play offs.
At 4 pm the Oakmeadians squad of ten mustered at their meeting point at the West End of Twickenham. The half time whistle blew and the squad raced onto the pitch bursting with pride for a great finale. Attacking the posts towards the North Stand where their parents were sitting, the team had an exhilarating game against Hertford RFC.
At the final whistle the final score was Hertford 3 – Oakmeadians 4, and as the teams raced off the pitch back to their parents in the North Stand, coach Gary (who was in possession of the match ball) scored a perfect try between the uprights at Twickenham. The squad’s wide victory smiles were matched only by the parents and coaches pride.
I don’t think this day and the teams achievements will be matched this season. In fact the Under eights squad has a challenge for the first’s, if they can match their achievement…. beat both the Wasps and the Saracens in the same day the beers are on the eights!!
