This weekend see our 1st XV play their second game of this season travelling away to play against Maidenhead 1st XV.

At home we have our 2nd XV welcoming North Dorset II and our 3rd XV are scheduled to play Blanford III

On Sunday our Acorns are on the park training (all welcome)

Well this weekend see the first match of the 2010-2011 season with new faces on and off the pitch with a new coaching structure and some new players.

On Saturday the 1st XV welcome Bletchly to the park for the first home game of the season which promises to be a good competative game to start the season off with (ko 3pm)

The acorns have their first training / registration day on sunday with all new and existing players are welcome.

England and Lions flanker Tom Croft star guest at Oakmeadians RFC for O2 Rugby Reunion

England flanker and British Lion Tom Croft will be at Oakmeadians RFC, Bournemouth, on Sunday August 29th when the O2 Rugby Reunion road show pulls up at Meyrick Park.

The Leicester Tiger, capped 18 times since making his international debut back in February 2008 against France, will be there to welcome players, particularly in the 16 to 24 age group, who have stopped playing in recent years but are itching to give their boots an airing once more.

One of the fastest breakaway forwards in world rugby Croft’s career has encompassed all levels of the sport since at age 11 he joined Newbury RFC. Still only 24, he has already reached the heights in his professional career but recognises that local clubs are the bedrock of the sport and provide healthy leisure and loads of enjoyment.

Says Tom, “If you’ve enjoyed playing the game at school or were a member of a local club and regret having given the game up then come along to Oakmeadians on Sunday.

“The obvious health benefit of playing any sport is massive but playing a game like rugby union is not just about the physical side on the pitch but also about the camaraderie away from it.

“Not everyone can play at the highest level but at club level you can get out on the pitch on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon with your mates for a couple of hours before enjoying yourselves together afterwards. So come on down to Oakmeadians and have some fun with me and everyone else and rekindle your passion for the game.”

The O2 Rugby Reunion initiative has also got the thumbs up from 2003 England World Cup winning hero and former Bath and current London Irish attack coach Mike Catt who says, “I truly believe in the importance of keeping young players in the game. Rugby is a fun, sociable sport for players and fans alike and I hope that through O2 Rugby Reunion more players can reunite with their old team mates and rediscover their love of the game.”

O2 Rugby Reunion is part of the RFU’s Play On campaign sponsored by O2 and supported by a network of O2 Pathfinders, over 1600 volunteers who connect players with clubs across the country.

Dorset RFU Rugby Development Officer Hamish Morton says, “The O2 Rugby Reunion at Oakmeadians promises to be a tremendous day for everybody who turns up. We’ll be playing touch rugby which allows players to keep in touch through a fun version of the game.”

O2 Rugby Reunion finale is at Kneller Hall, Twickenham on September 5, 2010. The culmination of this summer’s O2 Rugby Reunion regional events, “The Big One” offers rugby players from across the UK the chance to play in a national final and meet members of the England Rugby Squad. “The Big One” at Kneller Hall is followed by the Women’s Rugby World Cup final just across the road at The Twickenham Stoop.

August Rugby Ready Course

We are running a Rugby Ready Course at the Club on Saturday 21st August 2010. This will start at 8.30am and be over by 12. Anyone who wishes to coach this year must hold at least this level. The cost of this course is £18. Coach licensing will also start in January 2011, anyone without this level will not be covered by the RFU insurance to coach in any sessions. There is a case pending of an experiennced player who helped out when a coach did not turn up and is being sued over a broken wrist and loss of earnings by a fellow player.He had no coaching awards!

The Rugby Ready is also the First step towards the Level 1 and without it you cannot apply to go on level 1.

For this course to run we need the following:
1. 12 Candidates minimum
2. All Candidates to fill in the attached Application form and returned to DoR Acorns by 7 pm on Thursday 5th August 2010. So that numbers can be collated and the RFU informed for the relevant number of Handbooks.
3. Payment of £18 (either Cash or Cheques made payable to Oakmeadians RFC Ltd.) to me by 5th August.

No payment no entry onto course.

It is with deepest regret that we inform you of the death on 17th July of Claire Feltham, wife of Oakmeadians President Peter Feltham.

Oakmeadians join together to offer Peter and his family our heartfelt sympathies. Claire will be missed but her name will continue on at future Awards Ceremonies in the form of the 'Claire Feltham Best Female Supporter Award'.

Further details will be released in line with family's wishes.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual General Meeting of Oakmeadians RFC will be held at Oakmeadians RFC Clubhouse on Wednesday, 30th June 2010, at 7:30 p.m.

PROPOSED AGENDA

To note attendance and any apologies
To consider and approve (with or without amendments) the minutes of the previous AGM
To receive and approve a report from the Committee on the affairs of the Club since the previous Annual General Meeting.
To receive the Hon Treasurer’s Report and approve a financial statement for the preceding financial year.
To elect the Officers for the coming year
To consider any other motion or business that has been submitted in writing to the Secretary by 30th June, duly proposed by one Member and seconded by another Member.
To hear any other relevant matter for the consideration of the Committee during the ensuing year (details of which must have been submitted in writing to the Secretary not less than 48 hours before the time for which the AGM has been convened) but on which no voting shall be allowed.

Congratulations for some of our club player involved in helping Dorset & Wilts to the Final of the Counties Shield this Sunday at Twickenham. The county final will be played before the Baa Baas game.

Well done and congratulations to Mike Richards,Harvey Bell and Jamie Mitchell have all been a credit to Oaks in the 4 games played to get there.

We are also hosting the final of the Dorset & Wilts Cup at the club this weekend which sees Swans v Bournemouth take to the park.

This weekend sees the last 1st XV home league fixture against local Wiltshire club Salisbury in their bid to secure South West 1 East status for next season. Not only are our 1st XV at home against Salisbury but our 2nd XV are also home against Salisbury IIs. Our 3rd XV are away this weekend against local team Poole.

On Sunday our Ladies squad travel away for an all important league game which could seem them top the RFUW Championsip SW2 league. There is a coach laid on and as many supporters who want to go are welcome. Despite the cold start over 21 people turned out from the club to complete their RFU Rugby Ready course this Sat morning.

In the continuing development and expansion of the clubs coaching base the latest group of coaches attended the course in which the IRB aims to educate, aid and support players, coaches, match officials and Unions on the importance of sufficient preparation to avoid any injury during training and matches
