MIGHTY Oakmeadians

MIGHTY Oakmeadians maintained their unbeaten start to the season with an emphatic 61-5 victory over league rivals Ivel Barbarians at Meyrick Park.

The fourth successive victory, however, was marred by injuries as the Oaks completed the final stages of the game with just 13 players having made their three replacements.

A very Fijian feel for Oaks

MAIKI Bunny' Burenivalu may have had a poor harvest in the fields of North Dorset, but Oakmeadians' rise from the Southern Counties South ashes looks set to continue with a very Fijian feel.
While Meyrick Park-based Oaks were toiling towards a hard-fought football score victory at Slaughtergate at the weekend, coach James Croker was putting the finishing touches to a new-look back line described by captain, and brother Will, as "devastating".....

Heineken 10s Cancelled

CANCELLED

Due to lack of interest from other clubs the Heineken 10s competition on the 18th October at Meyrick park has been cancelled

Oaks make the news!

MAIKI Bunny' Burenivalu ran in five tries on his Oakmeadians debut but coach James Croker didn't feel the England Sevens player was the star in an 81-5 romp over Sherborne.
The Fijian-born three-quarter was a class act on his Southern Counties South bow for the ambitious Meyrick Park club.
As Oaks supporters left the ground most of them were talking about Burenivalu's spectacular 70-metre solo effort in which he ran past all 15 Sherborne players to touch down in the first half......

New Faces at Oakmeadians for 2008-9

Oakmeadians are delighted to welcome five home debutants today.  England Sevens international Maika Burenivalu ("Bunny") makes his first start for Oaks not is his usual position on the wing but at full back due to an injury to Sam Collins.  Bunny was outstanding playing for Oakmeadians at the Bournemouth Sevens and coach James Croker rates him as a National One or even Premiership winger and should figure regularly on the score sheet this season.

Perfect Start for Oaks

OAKMEADIANS got their Southern Counties South campaign off to the perfect start with a resounding 30-3 victory at Oldfield Old Boys.
James Croker's charges were in fine form in Bath, with full-back Sam Collins bagging two tries and Will Croker and Ollie Hare one each in a sublime second-half blitz...

Missing Ladder

pisa-ladder

It has come to the attention of the committee that a certain stepladder has been perloined!
sphynx_ladder

Rumour has it that it is taking a well earned break or moonlighting around the globe having escaped the confines of the club house. If you have seen it on your holidays please forward any pictures or reports of its where abouts ...

Should anyone have any concrete news please contact Alan Reed on 07795 417873

UPDATE: It now appears that this fellony seems to have been carried out by a highly orgnaised and motivated gang with the most devious black mail in mind. A copy of the demands can be found here in an attempt to help bring these perpetrators to justice.

Bath Charity 7's

page48_blog_entry64_1
On Saturday 28th June the Kaiviti Krusaders, comprising of Fijian players based in the UK, won the Wilts Cup at the Bath Charity 7's after defeating Oakmeadians in a close final.
Oakmeadians themselves had 9 Fijian army players in their squad, but were blown away by the Krusaders sheer pace and power. The winners walked away with the £500 prize money, with Oakmeadians taking the £200 runners-up fee, all donated by Wilts Electrical Wholesalers.

In total 40 teams took part in the event, 32 in the men's competition and 8 in the ladies tournament. Teams travelled from all over the UK for the one day event, organised and ran by the Bath Rugby Community Foundation at the University of Bath. Games were played over 5 pitches from 10.00 until 19.00, and a total of 100 games of 7's were played during the tournament. There were approximately 400 players present, and 17 referees from all over the UK.

In the ladies competition, the Pink Ba-Ba's, who included current Wales wing Non Evans, defeated ex-England captain Susie Appleby's West Country Cavaliers Ladies in the Wilts Cup final, that included a large number of other international players. Other ladies teams involved in the competition included Oxford, Camp Hill and Lakenham Hewett ladies, who travelled from Norfolk for the tournament.

In the men's Plate competition, sponsored by Blackthorn cider, the Bath-based Smashtown Cavaliers put on a superb performance in the knock-out stages to finally overcome a strong Withem's Elves outfit from London in a tense final. In the ladies plate competition, also backed by Blackthorn, a strong Oakmeadians ladies team defeated the Pink Ewes to win the silverware.

The men's Player of the Tournament went to Oakmeadians' Fijian winger 'Bally' after his excellent try-scoring performances throughout the day. Current England prop Rochelle Clarke won the ladies Player of the Tournament award. Both awards were selected by the day's referees, and were sponsored by Havaianas flip-flops.

Weymouth Beach Festival

Congratulations to all the U16 players, parent and colt for, not only winning, but for also representing the Oaks the day after the dinner dance but also for keeping up our tradition of doing well in these tournaments.
13 hardy teams braved the inclement weather at Weymouth seafront on Saturday May 17th and battled it out on the beach to see who would be the first beach champions of the season.
Purple Sharks (Weymouth RFC) took the cup in a close game against Valley Commando’s (Ebb Vale RFC), Tom’s Tornados (Weymouth RFC) won the Plate against RTB Steelers (Ebb Vale RFC) and Double O Podge (Oakmeadians RFC) beat another Weymouth club side, Hoxly Gone to get his van, in the bowl competition.
In co-operation with Weymouth seafront team and the Rugby Football Union, Weymouth RFC organised the beach festival for the sixth year running.
“This is a great opportunity for our club to get together at the end of the season and promote the values of rugby away from our clubhouse,” said Chris Davies, Weymouth RFC Club Secretary.
The RFU will be organising over 30 beach festivals this summer in partnership with rugby clubs, councils and other local partners.

We need your help !

Bournemouth Council have proposed to convert the area currently used for the under 7's and 8's into a playground.

We are petitioning them not to go ahead with this idea and to leave it as it is, enabling us to continue coaching the very youngest members of the club in a secure, confined environment. We'd like to collect as many names as possible to enable us to approach the council to ask them to reconsider their plans.
