Oakmeadians vs Swans 7th Oct

On Sunday 7th October 2007 the Acorns entertained the Swans in
their first match of the season.
On a glorious October Sunday morning our under 7’s Acorns played
three Tag matches against Swanage and Wareham.
The first match kicked off at 10:30 in front of a very anxious
crowd (their child’s very first rugby match). A well kitted out
squad of 21 players (commented on by the opposition) were divided
up into three teams. Each player getting to play in at least one
full match unless substituted injured.
The first match proved to be quite a high scoring affair with the
Acorns taking an early lead. Some excellent tagging ensued and by
half time the score was 5 – 2 in Oaks favour. At the re-start Swans
looked more composed and were proving much harder to tag.
Unfortunately for the Acorns, too many efforts were lost due to
players running out of bounds. At the final whistle, the teams were
evenly matched at 7 tries apiece. A great start to the season for
both teams.

The second match was a rather one sided affair probably due to most of the Acorns never having played competitively before. However one little acorn played with grit and determination and was very unlucky not to score but his efforts were not in vain. If it had not have been for his brilliant tagging the Acorns would have lost by a greater margin than 9 nil. Well done Josh.
The final match was similar to the previous one with very little experience on the park. Some of the players had only been down to Meyrick Park the previous Sunday for the local schools coaching clinic. They obviously liked it, and came back for some real rugby. Well done to all our newcomers, welcome to Oakmeadians Acorns RFC.
In case you didn’t hear the score it was only ten nil in Swanage and Wareham’s favour, but the real winners were everyone who turned up.
Next match Blandford away on 21st October.
Then North Dorset home on 28th October.
