Oakmeadians U15’s V Bournemouth girls
08/12/08 19:20
Oakmeadians 60 - Bournemouth 07 (Sunday 07th December 2008)
Visiting Chapel Gate and with both teams fielding reduced numbers the U15’s girl’s match against Bournemouth saw three of our players being sent across on loan to Bournemouth, making the match nine a side.
From the whistle the determination of the Oakmeadians girl’s was obvious and despite a number of handling errors due to nerves within the first few minutes of the game they soon crossed the whitewash with Jess Bowler touching down for her first try.
A spirited attempt from Bournemouth came to nothing and saw our girl’s pile on the pressure and the points with Robyn Gray crossing the line for our second try with Jess Bowler slotting the conversion to bring the score to 12 - 0, within the first ten minutes.
From there Oakmeadians girl’s took full control of the match and this saw Jess Bowler stretching her legs and the lead by scoring another two tries and converting one of them to bring the score up to a healthy 24 - 0.
Further relentless pressure saw Kat Jones go over to make the score 29 - 0 and up stepped Jess Bowler to slot the extra two points bringing the score to 31-0, when just before the break Bournemouth struck back with a well worked try and conversion bringing the score at the half time whistle to 31 - 7.
After the break the Oakmeadians girl’s got straight back to work with Rachel Ainsworth making the score board tic over to 36 – 7 while Robyn Gray crossed the line for her second try of the match and Jess Bowler stepped up for the conversion brining the score to 43 – 7.
A blistering breakaway from Jess Bowler saw her and Bex Twamley the only two players anywhere near the sticks and with a friendly pass saw Bex Twamley place the ball sweetly between the posts to bring the score line up to 48 – 7.
Not finished yet we saw another well worked team effort, with a mix of forwards and backs getting in on the act before Jess Bowler again crossed the line with two further tries in almost as many minutes, adding another conversion to the total saw the final score reach 60 – 7 to Oakmeadians.
Despite being down in numbers Bournemouth gave their all, but the strength and quick thinking of our girl’s maintained an impressive scoring rate which they have done throughout the season so far, and the old Oak’s spirit shone through with a fantastic display of running rugby and 100% commitment and team work.
